Diagnostics. Tools for assessing self-development and leadership skills.
Although assessments and tests never reveal the ultimate truth, various assessment tools often provide a more “objective” view than we can see in our own inner world. They reveal aspects that would otherwise go unnoticed.
At Hearth, we want to offer assessment tools that are versatile and that open up opportunities for both horizontal and vertical development. Tests that go deep and are often not found in consultants’ toolboxes.
We currently offer two self-assessment and leadership skills tools:
LEADERSHIP CIRCLE PROFILE
The Leadership Circle Profile is a multifaceted and comprehensive leadership skills assessment tool.
Leadership Circle is:
- description of different leadership skills. The Leadership Circle covers 8 leadership dimensions: Relating, Self-Awareness, Authenticity, System Awareness, Achieving, Complying, Protecting, Controlling. These are in turn divided into 29 detailed leadership skills.
- 360-degree feedback provides insight into both your own self-assessment and feedback from colleagues. The differences between your self-assessment and the feedback from others provide valuable insight into potential areas for improvement.
- benchmarking against a large number of leaders around the world who have taken the test (the test has been taken over two million times in total). Because Leadership Circle is backed by an extensive statistical database, this test provides an opportunity to see your level of leadership skills against the collective leadership level of the world.
- development tool. The test results are interpreted by a Leadership Circle certified leadership development consultant who supports setting the following development focuses as a leader.

Leadership Circle as a holistic view of leadership skills
Leadership Circle is first and foremost a tool to support leadership development. A leader’s job is complex. Many topics require a leader’s attention – motivating people and maintaining a good work culture, creating a goal (vision and mission) and strategy for the organization, implementing the structure and work processes necessary to achieve results, operational issues that need to be responded to. And dozens or hundreds of other topics. Sometimes it is difficult to navigate what to focus on and what is important.
Leadership Circle provides a holistic view. It provides an overview of the different skills that make it possible to be an effective leader (Leadership Circle Creative Dimensions). Leadership Circle also provides insight into the downsides of some leadership habits (Reactive Dimensions).
Leadership Circle is not a personality test, an assessment or selection tool, or a means of labeling a “good or bad leader.” It is a development tool that creates a strong foundation for long-term leadership development.
What the Leadership Circle test gives
Leadership Circle helps a leader:
- understand your impact on others through 360 degree feedback
- become aware of and notice automatic reactions that occur under stress
- make more informed choices in management style
- increase your influence as a leader
For the organization, this creates:
- better management quality and a culture of cooperation
- greater sense of responsibility and leadership maturity among the organization’s leaders
- a clearer connection between leadership behavior and results
Leadership Circle integrates many leadership theories
The Leadership Circle incorporates dozens of different leadership theories integrated into a single whole. Here is a list of some of the theorists and frameworks that are included in this method. Here is a list of some of them:
Karen Horney – Character structure (moving against, away, toward)
David Burns – Cognitive distortions, self-limiting beliefs
Carl Jung – Shadow, archetypes, individuation
Wilfred Bion – Group dynamics and defensive patterns
Eric Berne – Transactional Analysis (scripts, ego states)

COMPLETE VALUES PROFILE
One question we often face as leaders (and as people) is “Why does he behave the way he behaves, why does he make the choices he makes?” The same question actually applies to ourselves – why do I behave the way I behave. Our choices stem from our values, but our values are often subconscious – we are not aware of them.
The Complete Values Profile tool provides insight into our internal motivators, or what set of values guides us.
Values Profile as a tool for managers
Values and culture are intertwined. An organization’s culture has a deep connection to its achievements. The influence of culture on organizational performance is summed up in the well-known saying: “culture eats strategy for breakfast.” And culture starts first and foremost with the leader and his or her values.
The Values Profile provides insight into a leader’s own motivators and thus allows for a better understanding of how a leader’s worldview affects the organization and its results.
Values Profile theoretical background
The Values Profile is based on developmental psychology, the core idea of which is that as humans we develop through distinct stages of development, where we are motivated by very different goals. Some of the best-known developmental psychologists are Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, Robert Kegan, Bill Torbert. Perhaps the most famous is Abraham Maslow, whose pyramid of needs describes a hierarchy of different needs.
Values Profile also draws on organizational culture researchers, such as Geert Hofstede, Shalom Schwartz, William Marson, Robert Quinn, Edgar Schein, Richard Barrett.
The Values Profile contains components from all of these theorists, but is primarily based on Clare Graves’ theory, which combines both developmental psychology and the organizational values dimension.
The Values Profile test is multi-level
The Values Profile test covers several different perspectives. On the one hand, we have our “professional self” – the face we show in our work context. At the same time, we also have our true nature – who we are at our core. The two are not mutually exclusive, there is a lot of overlap between them, but they can also be different. The Values Profile covers both – some of the test’s perspectives describe personal values and others describe professional values.
The Values Profile test covers the following perspectives:
- Summary view (which includes both work-related and personal value images)
- A holistic view of the “professional self”
- Personal values overview
- Subviews of the “professional self”:
● Strategy (creation) view
● Implementer view
● Leadership style view - Subviews of personal values:
● Personality traits view
● Motivation view - Value “allergies” (Move away values)
- Value pull points (Move towards values)

Values Profile for the team
The Values Profile is valuable for a leader to better understand their own individual values profile. Since values are a tool for influencing and developing an organization’s culture, the Values Profile is even more valuable for improving collaboration with the organization’s employees.
